ABSTRACT: This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of growth promoter additives an alternative to antibiotics on performance, intestinal morphology and on microbiota of 21-to-35-day-old piglets. A total of 160 commercial crossbred piglets (males and females) with initial weight of 6.10±0.709kg were allotted in a completely randomized design with five treatments: Basal diet - Negative Control (NC); Basal diet + antibiotic (PC); Basal diet + mannanoligosaccharides (MOS); Basal diet + organic acids (OA), Basal diet + mannanoligosacharides + organic acids (MOS+OA), eight replicates and four piglets per experimental unit. ABSTRACT The effect of additives used in the feed of broilers on anaerobic bio-digestion of poultry litter was evaluated. Four diets were used: NC: negative control; DFM: NC + 500 ppm direct-fed microbials (DFM) containing Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis; ENZ: diet formulated with an enzyme blend (20 ppm phytase, 200 ppm protease and 200 ppm xylanase); DFM+E: ENZ + DFM. Substrates for the anaerobic bio-digestion were prepared with litter from each treatment, containing 4 % total solids (TS). These were used in 16 continuous bio-digesters with a 2 kg d−1 load, to determine the production and potential biogas production and composition during an 85-day period. ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to evaluate the inclusion of calcium anacardate (CAC) as a source of anacardic acid in the diet of broiler chickens on blood parameters, and enzymatic and oxidative activity in the liver. A total of 840 male chicks, one day old, were kept in a completely randomised experimental design, with six treatments and seven replications of 20 birds, totalling 140 birds per treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the capacity of the ensilage of Jatropha curcas L. expeller cake to reduce the phorbol esters and its effect on fermentative losses, by adding soluble carbohydrates or microbial inoculants. The design was completely randomized with four replications in a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement, with three sources of soluble carbohydrates (SC, control, 50 g sucrose/kg or 50 g crude glycerin/kg as fed) and two doses of microbial inoculants (MI, 0 or 5 × 10(5) ufc Lactobacillus plantarum + 3.33 × 10(5) ufc Propionibacterium per g as fed). Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of re-ensiling and bacterial inoculation on the quality of corn silage. The experiment was carried out in a 2x2 factorial design with or without inoculant (association of Lactobacillus plantarum and Propionibacterium acidipropionici), and with re-ensiling after 36 hours of aerobic exposure or only ensiling of the whole plant of 'BRS 1055' corn. Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of dietary glutamine and glutamic acid supplementation on carbon turnover (δ13C) in the muscles of piglets, on animal performance, and on feed economic feasibility. The diets consisted of: control (C), 1% glutamine (G), and 1% glutamic acid (GA). In experiment I, 111 piglets were used to assess carbon turnover in the Masseter, Psoas major, and Abdominal internal oblique muscles in terms of their isotopic composition and 13C substitution over time. Drying and characterization of myrtle pulp AGRIAMBI

ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to develop formulations of myrtle pulp with emulsifier/stabilizer (Emustab® and Super Liga Neutra®) in different proportions; characterize the best foam, based on density and over-run; and determine drying kinetics at temperatures of 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 oC and thicknesses of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 cm. Incorporation of 1.5% Emustab® and 0.5% Super Liga Neutra® to the myrtle pulp (F1) proved to be effective for foam-mat drying. The addition of additives influenced the physicochemical parameters of the whole myrtle pulp. The Midilli et al. model showed the best fit to the experimental data.

Effect of carrageenan addition on the yield and functional properties of charqui (Jerked Beef) BABT

The objective of this work was to evaluate the application of carrageenan (CAR) to improve the functional properties of the jerked beef (JF) and to increase its processing yield. JB produced from Vastus lateralis with CAR (1.0%) at 25ºC and NaCl (15.0%) had approximately 15.0% higher moisture and a 32.0% higher processing yield in comparison to the control samples.JB-CAR presented shear force approximately 5.0 and 20% lower in the samples uncooked salted and desalted cooked, respectively, and sensorial acceptance above 80%. Effect of xanthan on the growth of sulphate-reduction bacteria in marine sediments. ArchiMer

Chemical additives are used extensively in the offshore oil industry. For secondary oil recovery, the biopolymer xanthan has been recommended as a viscosifying agent but its use may provoke microbial problems. The effect of adding xanthan to marine sediments on the growth and metabolic activity of sulphate-reducing bacteria (SRB) was studied. In all instances, its addition resulted in an increasing in SRB numbers of up to 250-fold. This was accompanied by a marked increase in the electron transport activity of the sediments when these were incubated under either aerobic or anaerobic conditions. ABSTRACT Two trials were performed to evaluate the effects of an enzyme complex (EC) on broiler performance, metabolizable energy, and phosphorus and nitrogen balance. In the first trial, 960 one-day-old male Cobb broilers were randomly distributed in a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement (three nutritional levels and the inclusion or not of EC), totaling six treatments with eight replicates of 20 birds per pen, and reared until 42 days of age. ABSTRACT Fermentation profile and microbial population were assessed in soybean silages without any additive (control), with inoculant (I), with I + powdered molasses (I+M), and with powdered molasses only (M). Soybean plants were harvested at the R6 stage and ensiled in 2kg-capacity laboratory silos. The additives were added to the natural matter base of silages.
